Prior to Your First Visit

After scheduling a complimentary consultation, you will receive an email with a link to fill out new patient forms. The information you provide will help us prepare for your visit! Be sure to fill it out 24 hours or more before your appointment.

If you have trouble with the link, or don’t receive one 1 week before your appointment, feel free to call or text the office for help.

If you have insurance, please provide the details via the new patient link. This will allow us the opportunity to help you maximize your insurance benefits.

Your Complimentary Initial Exam and Consultation

complimentary At your complimentary consultation, you will be welcomed to our office by our Treatment Coordinator who will give you a tour of our state-of-the-art, comfortable and home-like facility. She will review with you the patient information form you completed, answering any questions you might have. We will take complimentary digital photos, and if appropriate, complimentary 3-D imaging and impressions.

Dr. Burkey will then have the opportunity to meet you. He will evaluate your or your child’s smile by doing a thorough examination of the bite measuring such things as overbite, overjet, cross-bites, crowding, and spacing. Evaluating the fit and function of the bite is important, but Dr. Burkey is also interested in how the bite affects the profile, smile, and facial balance. He will provide a treatment plan at the initial examination, but if additional planning with your dentist or other specialists is needed, we may schedule a secondary, complimentary consultation appointment, allowing Dr. Burkey time to consult with your other providers. You will be given an opportunity to ask as many questions as you might have, as we feel strongly about communication in order that you have the information you need about your orthodontic treatment.

Patients who are not ready for any orthodontic treatment at the time of their initial consultation will be placed in our complimentary supervision program. Dr. Burkey will continue to monitor growth with six month visits. He will evaluate teeth as they erupt to help prevent or lessen problems as they arise. Our younger patients who are not quite ready for orthodontic treatment will have fun as they earn prizes just for coming in to their supervision appointments. This helps them be comfortable with Dr. Burkey and feel at ease coming for appointments. There is no charge for the consultation appointment or any supervision appointments.

What happens after the initial consultation?

happens You’re one step closer to achieving the smile you’ve always wanted! If you or your child is ready to begin orthodontic treatment, we will schedule your banding appointment, and Dr. Burkey will get you started. The length of this appointment is tailor made to the type of treatment you need. During this time our team will be available to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible.

Scheduling Appointments

Visiting the orthodontist about every four to eight weeks is an important part of your orthodontic treatment. Our practice will work with you to make sure that your appointments are as convenient as possible. When scheduling appointments, please let us know what days and times work best for you.

We understand that “life happens”! If you’re running late or need to reschedule, please let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate you. When you’re ready to schedule your first appointment, contact our practice and our friendly scheduling coordinator will assist you. We’re looking forward to working with you!

Visiting the family dentist during orthodontic treatment

It is very important during orthodontic treatment that you continue to see your family dentist at least every six months for cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your dentist to make sure that you are receiving the best care possible.
